Sajjangad - Satara

Sajjangad is a popular place for pilgrims and followers of Ramdas Swami, the spiritual guru of Shivaji Maharaj

Ramdas Swami lived his entire life on this plateau fort. The maintenance of the fort and shrine of Sant Ramdas is taken care of by Shri Ramdas Swami Sansthan, a trust which has existed since the time of Shri Ramdas Swami.

The daily routine on the fort is fixed and strictly followed. It includes morning prayers, Abhishek and Puja, Maha Naivedya, Bhajans and reading of the manuscript Dasbodh written by Sant Ramdas. This is certainly a holy place and no bad behavior is allowed here. The main doors of the fort are closed on sunset to sunrise and hence you cannot enter the fort or even exit from the fort during this time.

Though, Sajjangad is not a picnic spot, but has a lot of spiritual importance. And hence is a nice place to visit.

Matheran was discovered by Hugh Malet in 1850. The British developed Matheran as a popular tourist resort.
At an elevation of around 800m (2,625 ft) above sea level Matheran is a hill station located about 100 km from Mumbai. Matheran literally means jungle on top. All vehicles (Except emergency vehicles) are banned here.

The market is the area where the bulk of the activity is. You get good quality Shoes, Slippers, Sandals and other leather goods at good bargains here.

You also get various flavors of Chikki (which is a softer version of peanut brittle), local honey, fudge's (Chocolate and fruit flavours etc.) ice gola's and various drinks. In the center of the market is a garden.
The following is a list of some major places of interest -

Mount Berry
Luisa Point
Echo Point
Panorama Point (Sunrise Point)
Porcupine Point (Sunset Point)

One tree Hill
Garbut Point
Chowk Point
Olympia Racecourse

Matheran hill station is one of the only few places in the world where all vehicles are banned which makes the place unique. Matheran takes you over a hundred years back in time when there were no cars.
The unpolluted air, beautiful surroundings, charming shady walks and magnificent panoramic views are what make a stay in Matheran a totally different experience in itself.

So visit Matheran to sit back and enjoy nature and the healthy atmosphere ...
